My approach to horse training comes from a unique place. I spent many years working with horses using primarily a natural horsemanship background. About 12 years ago I began a thorough study of Classical Horsemanship with a special interest in the work of Nuno Oliveira and his students. This Classical influence has shaped everything I do, from the beginning of handling the very young foal, to the first few rides on a young, green horse, to a more finished horse which may be powerful, relaxed and balanced. I truly believe this type of classical training presents the full natural approach that most people want with their horses. When we understand and relate to our horses from their point of view, meaning from their natural instincts, we can then blend the ideas of balance and harmony that classical horsemanship has always offered. These do not need to be two seperate fields of training. Create understanding, develop movement in relaxation, feel how the horse comes together naturally and re-educate its balance through progressive classical exercises. This is the cornerstone of all my training with horses, and also how I go about helping riders find more feel and balance.
