Working Equitation was born out of a desire to show the horse off in balance doing movements you would regularly use working outside and around the ranch or farm. Manueverabilty and versatility of the horse around obstacles such as gates, bridges, low jumps and poles is a common experience for the working horse. What is also demanded is alot of balance to do work in tight spaces with cattle as well as with other ranch jobs. What makes working equitation different from Ranch Horse Versatility competitions is the quality of collection and balance the horses use to do the Working Equitation Course. The course requires a high level of horsemanship at the upper levels, though there is also a novice and intermediate course for the horse in order to carefully develop the skills and balance needed.
